NEWS FLASH: Nightwing Movie in the Works at DC

Guess what? DC have just announced that they are working on a solo movie for Batman’s protege Nightwing…

Well, this is a turn up for the books. Warner Bros. and DC have now announced out of nowhere that they are working on a Nightwing solo movie. And it’s even got a director and screenwriter already attached. It’s really happening!

Interestingly, the director is Chris McKay – who just helmed The LEGO Batman Movie. On the one hand, the guy has history with Batman’s world. On the other, he is most known for his work on animated comedies (McKay is also an alum of Robot Chicken). How he will fair in live-action will be interesting to see.

The script is being written by Bill Dubuque. Dubuque is a much safer choice, seeing as he wrote drama movie The Accountant – starring, funnily enough, Batman himself Ben Affleck.

In case you don’t know, Nightwing is the second superhero identity of Dick Grayson, the first Robin. In the comics, Grayson graduates to Nightwing when he decides to step outside of Batman’s shadow. He moves to neighbouring city Bludhaven – which was mentioned in The LEGO Batman Movie – and becomes its protector.

The character has been one that fans have been desperate to see on the big screen for years. In particular, it should be great to have a film which finally takes Grayson seriously as a character – after the likes of Burt Ward, Chris O’Donnell and Michael Cera played up the campy sidekick angle. I don’t know about you, but this has gone right to the top of my list for most anticipated upcoming DC movies (behind The Batman, of course).
