Which of Spidey’s many nemeses should make it to the big screen next? Here are our picks…
Recent leaked photos from the filming of Spider-Man: Homecoming reveal that an unexpected Spidey villain will turn up in Tom Holland’s first solo movie in the role (warning: don’t click link if you don’t want to be spoiled). But what other villains should appear in future…?
8. Chameleon
The face-changing Chameleon has the distinction of being the very first supervillain Peter Parker faced, as he initially appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #1. Over the years, the methods of the pasty-faced master of disguise have altered – from mere masks to advanced technology – but he’s always been a challenge. He’s also the brother of Kraven (more on him later), so the pair would be perfect to star in a film together.
7. Scorpion
Like many Spidey villains, Mac Gargan got his animalistic abilities in an experiment gone wrong. His tragedy is that his superhuman powers keep mutating, turning him more and more savage. In the past, Firefly’s Nathan Fillion has expressed interest in playing Gargan in a movie. Now that Spidey is at Marvel and Fillion has history with many of the studio’s bigwigs (Joss Whedon, James Gunn), this could actually happen sometime soon.
6. Hydro-Man
Simply put, Hydro-Man is a water-based version of Sandman. However, his abilities could look great on screen if realised with state-of-the-art CGI. His most prominent role came in the 90s Spider-Man: The Animated Series, in which Morris ‘Morrie’ Bench was a jilted ex-boyfriend of Mary Jane Watson who repeatedly tried to steal her away from Peter. We would rather see Hydro-Man get a shot at the limelight over another adaptation of Sandman.
5. Mysterio
Otherwise known as ‘The One with the Fish Bowl on his Head’, Mysterio is Quentin Beck – a Hollywood special effects man who utilised his talent for illusions for criminal gain. Though often portrayed comically, Mysterio would be great to see on screen. Brilliantly, he was going to appear in the aborted Spider-Man 4 where Bruce Campbell – who cameod in the three previous movies – would have been revealed to be the villain all along.
