A Guide To The Mutants Of The Gifted

The recent X-Men-related TV show The Gifted featured a whole host of mutants fighting for survival. Here’s our guide to the lot of them…

Eclipse

Played by: Sean Teale

One of the leaders of the Mutant Underground is Marcos Diaz AKA Eclipse. A former enforcer for a Mexican criminal cartel, he began on a more heroic path when he fell in love with Polaris. Eclipse is an original character for TV but he is similar to Sunspot from the comics, another Latino mutant with solar powers.

Polaris

Played by: Emma Dumont

The magnetic Lorna Dane AKA Polaris was detained in a mental hospital after inuring humans during a bipolar episode. While there, she was recruited by a representative of the X-Men to head the Mutant Underground. Her father was a mutant terrorist involved with the Brotherhood and the Hellfire Club. Comics fans will know that this is Erik Lensherr AKA Magneto.

Blink

Played by: Jamie Chung

Clarice Fong has the ability to create interspatial portals as well as possessing physical mutations including pink hair and green eyes. In the past, she briefly ran with the Brotherhood, then went on her own before finally joining the Mutant Underground. In the comics, Blink has pink skin. Fan BingBing played the character in 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Thunderbird

Played by: Blair Redford

John Proudstar AKA Thunderbird is a Native American veteran who fought in Afghanistan. Along with Polaris, he was picked to lead the MU by the X-Men. As well as super-strength and bulletproof skin, Thunderbird has incredible tracking powers. In the comics, he is the brother of James Proudstar AKA Warpath (who appeared in Days of Future Past).

Lauren And Andy Strucker

Played by: Natalie Alyn Lind and Percy Hynes White

Lauren and Andy Strucker have the power to compress air and telekinesis respectively. When they hold hands, they can activate a hugely devastating ability to destroy anything in their path. They are the great grandchildren of Andreas and Andrea Von Strucker, mutant terrorists who called themselves Fenris. Lauren and Andy are original to TV but the Strucker family is an important one in the comics due to their close ties to HYDRA.

Dreamer

Played by: Elena Satine

Sonya Simonson AKA Dreamer was a senior member of the MU with the ability to read, warp or even create memories in others, via a special pink gas she could exhale. Spoilers – she was killed by anti-mutant scientist Roderick Campbell during season 1. In the comics, the character is known as Beautiful Dreamer.

Sage

Played by: Hayley Lovitt

Sage was the MU’s resident tech expert. Her mutant power appears to be her superhuman intelligence and ability to process information at incredible speed. In the comics, Sage was a spy for the X-Men in the Hellfire Club. At the end of season 1, Sage also joins the Club. Is she secretly still on the MU’s side?
