After years of theorising, the title of the much-anticipated Star Wars: Episode VIII has finally been officially confirmed. And it is…. The Last Jedi.
You may recall that, at the end of The Force Awakens, Rey discovered Luke Skywalker, living as a hermit on a backwater planet somewhere. Assuming that the title refers to a single last Jedi, then Luke is the best bet. Though Rey’s nascent Force powers will likely see her train under Luke to become a Jedi herself.
“We have the greatest fans in this or any other galaxy,” goes the official statement on the Star Wars website.. “In appreciation of the fans, we wanted them to be the first to know the title of the next chapter in the Skywalker saga: STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI.”
Star Wars: The Last Jedi arrives in cinemas on December 15th.

I love the title. It’s so evokative. I was meandering on Instagram earlier and wow have people taken up the “is jedi singular or plural” theme.
Regardless this title marks a great start. Star Wars always does great titles!

It’s a great title! Yeah, I think it’s something people will keep discussing until the movie comes out. That’s very true about the titles. Regardless of the movie’s quality, how cool a title is The Phantom Menace!

The only quibble I have is I would have liked a jedi title for ep IX. Something to go along with return and revenge.
TPM is a fantastic title, it fits the movie really well and was perfect for the hype machine. To be fair they could call the movie something ridiculous like “Jedi, Thousands of Them” and we’d still all go. They might get sued but I doubt they’d care.
