NEWS FLASH: Marvel Developing TV Series For Loki, Scarlet Witch And More

Marvel is developing some big-budget miniseries for Disney’s upcoming streaming service, including solo shows for Loki and Scarlet Witch…

To date, Marvel’s TV efforts have featured either supporting characters promoted to lead roles (Agents of SHIELDs Phil Coulson or Agent Carter‘s Peggy Carter) or completely original to TV characters (everyone else) but these shows will be directly connected to the movies by featuring the original actors reprising their roles.

The first two series that we know about will star Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Thor’s mischievous brother, and Elizabeth Olsen as Avenger Scarlet Witch. More are planned.

The budgets are expected to be hefty, perhaps on a par with the studios’ movies. Each series is likely to consist of 6-8 episodes. Marvel Studios will produce them as well, not Marvel Television (the subsidiary that handles the rest of Marvel’s small-screen output). Marvel president Kevin Feige is said to be very hands on with these shows.

The Marvel shows join other major projects that will be exclusive to Disney’s streaming service, including a remake of Lady and the Tramp and the first ever live-action Star Wars series. For more info, check out the original story broken by Variety.
