5. Never Kill A Boy On A First Date
The first episode that really highlights Buffy’s plight of sacrificing normal things to be the Slayer. Love the final scene where Giles opens up to Buffy for the first time. 7.5/10
6. The Pack
Despite the goofiness of high school kids getting possessed by hyenas, this one is actually quite an unsettling look at bullying teenage gangs – e.g. when Buffy is almost assaulted. 7.5/10
7. Angel
Buffy finds out that her mysterious beau is actually a vampire! A big turning point for the show going forward, it’s just not rated higher due to a personal disinterest in Angel. 7.5/10
8. I Robot, You Jane
A demon called Moloch the Corrupter is accidentally released into the internet in an episode that is now hideously dated as well as not particularly well-crafted in the first place. 6.5/10
9. The Puppet Show
The actual plot – a living dummy haunts the high school talent show – isn’t the best but there’s lots of fun dialogue and several twists and turns to keep things lively. 7.5/10

Totally agree that the light -heartedness is best in season 1. Great introduction in the main cast and the essence of Buffy. Seasons here after however have even better story arcs and give eve more insight in the character creating real depth, even for the villains.

Glad you agree. Exactly – S1 sets it all up very well but subsequent seasons just up the ante and delve deeper.
What’s your favourite season, by the way?
