17 Whedonverse Actors Who Have Played DC Heroes and Villains

Neil Patrick Harris

Whedonverse Appearances: Dr Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog as Billy/Dr Horrible.

DC Appearances: Static Shock as Johnny Morrow/Replay, Justice League as Ray Thompson, Justice League: The New Frontier as Barry Allen/The Flash, Batman: The Brave and the Bold as Music Meister, Batman: Under the Red Hood as Dick Grayson/Nightwing.

Whedon fans will know him as singing supervillain Dr Horrible but DC fans will have heard Neil Patrick Harris’ tones across various animated offerings. As well as the usual couple of DCAU appearances, Harris has managed to notch up two prominent superhero roles – namely, the Flash and Nightwing.

Alan Tudyk

Whedonverse Appearances: Firefly/Serenity as Hoban ‘Wash’ Washburne, Dollhouse as Alpha.

DC Appearances: Batman: The Brave and the Bold as Barry Allen/The Flash, Young Justice as Oliver Queen/Green Arrow, Injustice: Gods Among Us as Green Arrow, Justice League: War as Superman, Infinite Crisis as Green Arrow, Powerless as Van Wayne.

Alan Tudyk has an incredibly prolific voice acting career – recently he played K2SO in Rogue One – so it’s no surprise he has found a groove in DC animated and video game productions. He has given his interpretation of both Superman and the Flash, but you will usually be able to hear him as the Emerald Archer himself Green Arrow.

Morena Baccarin

Whedonverse Appearances: Firefly/Serenity as Inara Serra.

DC Appearances: Justice League Unlimited as Dinah Lance/Black Canary, Batman: The Brave and the Bold as Cheetah, Son of Batman as Talia al Ghul, Batman: Bad Blood as Talia, The Flash as Gideon, Gotham as Leslie Thompkins.

Like her Firefly co-star Alan Tudyk, Morena Baccarin has appeared in both live-action and animated DC productions. She, of course, appeared in JLU as Black Canary and then later as Batman’s assassin lover Talia in a couple of straight-to-DVD movies. In live-action, she voiced A.I. Gideon on The Flash and appeared as Jim Gordon’s girlfriend Leslie Thompkins on Gotham.

Nathan Fillion

Whedonverse Appearances: Firefly/Serenity as Mal Reynolds, Buffy the Vampire Slayer as Caleb, Dr Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog as Captain Hammer, Much Ado About Nothing as Dogberry.

DC Appearances: Justice League Unlimited as Vigilante/Greg Saunders/Spy Smasher, Wonder Woman as Steve Trevor, Green Lantern: Emerald Knights as Hal Jordan/Green Lantern, Justice League: Doom as Green Lantern, Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox as Green Lantern, Justice League: Throne of Atlantis as Green Lantern.

Props to Boreanaz for his efforts, but the best Green Lantern voice actor out there has to be Nathan Fillion, who has played the character across four animated movies and counting. Many have been calling for him to play the character in live-action for years. As well as GL, Fillion has also lent his voice to JLU and the Wonder Woman animated movie.
