NEWS FLASH: Obi-Wan Kenobi Movie Definitely Coming

Lucasfilm has finally confirmed that a solo movie for Obi-Wan Kenobi is on the way…

Though the project is in its very early stages, a director is already attached – namely, the Oscar-nominated Stephen Daldry (Billy Elliot, The Hours, The Reader). No script has been written as yet.

While it has not been confirmed, it is pretty much a cert that Ewan McGregor will return to play Obi-Wan, a role he previously took over from Alec Guinness in the prequel trilogy. Though those films are often ripped apart by fans, McGregor’s Kenobi is one of the few things that the fandom reacts positively to.

The actor has previously spoken out in public several times about how much he would love to reprise the part, so you can bet that he would be thrilled to sign up for this film. At one point, McGregor even wanted a trilogy all to himself, but we’ll have to wait and see whether that is a real possibility.

Obi-Wan’s voice – provided by McGregor – can be briefly heard in a vision of Rey’s in The Force Awakens, but the character has not been seen in the flesh since 2005’s Revenge of the Sith.
