First Look At Disney’s Live-Action Mulan

Here’s the first promo photo for Disney’s live-action remake of Mulan, starring Liu Yifei as the titular warrior princess…

Check out the actress in character in the image above. I think we can all agree she looks like she’s just stepped out of the animated movie.

Here’s the synopsis for Mulan:

Mulan is the epic adventure of a fearless young woman who masquerades as a man in order to fight Northern Invaders attacking China. The eldest daughter of an honored warrior, Hua Mulan is spirited, determined and quick on her feet. When the Emperor issues a decree that one man per family must serve in the Imperial Army, she steps in to take the place of her ailing father as Hua Jun, becoming one of China’s greatest warriors ever.

Niki Caro is directing the film. As well as Yifei, it features a stellar cast of some of the biggest Chinese movie stars who will mostly be playing original characters.

Rogue One‘s Donnie Yen is Commander Tung, Mulan’s mentor, Xana Tang is Mulan’s sister, Gong Li is the new villain – a sinister witch – while Jason Scott Lee is Bori Khan, a secondary warrior villain.

Mulan’s live-action love interest won’t be fan favourite Li Shang but a new character called Chen Honghui instead, as played by New Zealand actor Yoson An. Mushu, the wisecracking dragon, is not expected to feature in the movie.

Mulan battles its way into cinemas on March 27th 2020.
