5. Into the Bunker
Season Two marked a significant shift away from monster-of-the-week episodes towards mythos-centric ones, and its second episode kicked this off in a big way as the gang apparently discover the bunker of The Author. It also addresses Dipper’s unrequited crush on Wendy in a touching way and features one of the show’s creepiest creatures.
4. Dipper and Mabel vs The Future

Something that sets Gravity Falls apart from most animated shows is its commitment to moving the characters forward. In this late-in-the-day episode, Mabel and Dipper are approaching their 13th birthday and make different decisions about their future. The ending is just jaw-dropping and heartbreaking at the same time.
3. The Time Traveler’s Pig

For me, this was the first episode of the show that absolutely fired on all cylinders. A very clever timey wimey plot is wrapped around an emotional story that gets to the heart of how much the twins care for each other – as Dipper is willing to sacrifice his own happiness to put a smile on Mabel’s face. Plus, it introduces everyone’s favourite animated pig Waddles.
2. Not What He Seems

This lead-in to the second part of Season Two brings to a head everything that has been building up to this point, as the kids finally learn that their Grunkle Stan is, well, not what he seems. The final moments, as Mabel is forced to make an impossible decision, are incredibly tense and it all ends on a whopping great big cliffhanger. Fantastic TV.
1. Weirdmageddon Part1/Part 2: Escape From Reality/ Part 3: Take Back The Falls

Is it a bit of a cheat to count this three-part finale as one? Maybe, but each one is so brilliant they would get the top three spots anyway. While the first concentrates on Dipper and the second on Mabel, the double-length final episode unites all our heroes in a fight to save Gravity Falls from destruction. The final fifteen minutes, where every character gets some some sort of closure, will legitimately bring a tear to your eye. A fitting end to what has got to be one of the best animated shows of all time.
