The long-awaited third Hellboy movie is coming… but it will be an R-rated reboot with a new actor in the role…
We have some good news and some bad news for fans of the two Hellboy movies starring the perfectly-cast Ron Perlman and directed by the visionary Guillermo del Toro. The much-discussed third film is coming, but in the form of a total restart for the franchise.
Tentatively titled Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen, the new movie will be more of a hardcore horror movie than the previous efforts and will be directed by Neil Marshall (Game of Thrones, The Descent) from a script by Heroes scribe Aron Coleite (based off earlier drafts by Andrew Cosby, Christopher Golden and Hellboy creator Mike Mignola).
Perlman will be replaced in the role by David Harbour, recently seen as Sheriff Hopper in Stranger Things. Harbour was also recently in talks for the role of Cable in Deadpool 2, before that was taken by Josh Brolin.
Hellboy fans, are you excited by this turn of events? For me, while it is shame that the fabled Hellboy 3 will never happen, I’m glad that the character is heading to the big screen once again.
