An Unconventional Ranking Of The MCU Movies

Now that we’ve all seen Avengers: Infinity War, here’s a very personal ranking of the past 19 (19!) movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe…

19. Iron Man 2 (2010)

Iron Man 2 is an outlier for the MCU as it lacks the inherent grasp of story and character that the franchise is usually so good at it. It’s a perfectly adequate movie-going experience but it’s basically just a collection of too many (underdeveloped) characters and action scenes.

18. Thor: The Dark World (2013)

There’s actually much to enjoy from The Dark World  – basically, any scene involving Thor and Loki is a delight, as always. For the rest of the runtime, though, it’s a bit of a bore that fails to grab your attention. I’ve seen it twice but still couldn’t tell you what happens.

17. Iron Man 3 (2013)

Iron Man 3 does have its defenders – those that will tell you that the Mandarin twist is brilliant, for example – but unfortunately I’m not in that camp. Robert Downey is as good as usual but it’s still one of the MCU’s lesser efforts.

16. The Incredible Hulk (2010)

The Incredible Hulk is actually a little better than its reputation suggests, and in some ways I prefer Edward Norton’s tragic interpretation to Mark Ruffalo’s green comedian. Watch it again and you’ll see it’s a Marvel version of a classic monster movie.
