The upcoming Star Trek: Discovery has found its captain – and its Lucius Malfoy himself Jason Isaacs…
The actor announced the news on his Twitter account:
Isaacs will play Captain Lorca of the starship Discovery. He follows in the grand tradition of Star Trek captains like William Shatner, Sir Patrick Stewart, Avery Brooks, Kate Mulgrew and Scott Bakula.
In a break with tradition, however, Isaacs won’t be the star of the show. Instead The Walking Dead‘s Sonequa Martin-Green will play Number One AKA Lt. Rainsford.
The rest of the cast includes Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) as Captain Georgiou of the Shenzhou, Gotham‘s James Frain as Spock’s father Sarek, Doug Jones (Hellboy) as the alien Lt. Saru and Broadway actor Anthony Rapp as Lt. Stamets.
It is not set in the so-called “Kelvin timeline” of the reboot movies but instead takes place 10 years before Star Trek: The Original Series. According to developer Bryan Fuller, it revolves around an “event [that] is something that was referenced in the original series… but never seen.”
Star Trek: Discovery will likely arrive in the fall 2017.
