NEWS FLASH: Zachary Levi Cast As Lead In DC’s Shazam!

The Chuck star will be playing the hero formally known as Captain Marvel in the upcoming movie…

Another day, another piece of massive DC news. Following from the recent announcement that Deathstroke solo film is on its way, today we have learned that the studio’s Shazam! movie, which has been in the works for some time, has finally found its lead.

It’s Zachary Levi – most known for playing the lead in cult favourite spy comedy Chuck! Levi is no stranger to appearing in superhero movies, though, as he played the Asgardian Fandral in Thor: The Dark World and in a brief cameo in Thor: Ragnarok.

Shazam (originally known as Captain Marvel before things got too confusing with Marvel’s own Captain Marvel) is really 12 year old Billy Batson. But when he says the magic word “Shazam!” Billy becomes a fully-grown adult with superpowers derived from the mythical  gods Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles and Mercury.

Previously, Dwayne Johnson was cast as Shazam’s nemesis Black Adam, but the last we heard was that he wouldn’t be in Shazam! and was going to get his own film instead. It has since been rumoured that Dr Sivana will take his place as the movie’s villain.

Shazam! is directed by David F Sandberg (Annabelle) and is due for release in 2019.
